Lobster 101

Lobster is widely regarded as a luxury item. No other food says wealth and tastes more than lobster. American lobsters are exported all over the world because they are prized for their flavor. American lobsters are typically found in the North Atlantic, although they have been caught as far south as New York. Most lobsters are caught in the Northeast United States and the Canadian Maritimes.

While Amercian lobsters are prized, lobster tail connoisseurs are also fond of rock lobster tails from Brazil and the Dominican Republic. People who love lobster tails say these rock lobsters offer the best tails on the market.

Lobster meat is prized by many because it is high in protein and low in fat. The meat of the lobster is sweet and tender. Lobster is used in many pasta dishes with cream or butter sauces. To eat a whole lobster, you may want to remove the tail first, by twisting it. Some people like to break the lobster in half lengthwise, but that can be difficult to accomplish. If the tail is too intimidating, you may want to start by breaking off the claws first and eating those. If you aren’t sure where to begin, you can always ask us for help.
