A Half-Shell History Lesson

Like so many other recipes that are enjoyed by many, clams on the half shell have an interesting backstory that’s attributed to them. It all started in 1917 in Narragansett, a city located in Rhode Island. Who could have foretold that such a big taste would emerge from such a small state? A location known as Little Casino served up the clams on the half shell as an appetizer, along with breadcrumbs and bacon. The dish was affectionally referred to as “clams casino,” forever linking the location and entree together with one another.

They Taste Good and Are Good For You

It’s been remarked before that some of the best-tasting food in the world isn’t always the healthiest. Well, we’re here to inform you that clams, much like other species of shellfish, are just as good for you as they are delicious. Just 190 grams of clams provide you with a wealth of healthy attributes. First of all, that serving only contains 281 calories and a whopping 49 grams of protein. But that’s not all; 294% of your daily recommended iron intake, 70% of your vitamin C requirements, and 34% of your daily dose of potassium are also included. Low in calories and fat and packed with all of the nutrients your body needs, clams are an excellent part of your diet, no matter which way they’re prepared.
